New Year Trip to Côte d’Ivoire

This post is so overdue. We started our year off in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and it was the best New Year’s we’ve ever had! Our children had the most fantastic time immersing in the Ivorian culture. Our oldest fed an elephant (yes!) and our youngest claims he fed a zebra (although brother did). Even now, six months later, they speak of this daily and they can’t stop watching the videos of them interacting with the animals.

We booked our trip through our favorite sites of which we’ve shared some deals for. Vayama is definitely the best site to book on if you are already in Africa and are traveling within Africa. They’ve been a great option and have really good customer service. We used Hotels.com to book our suite at the Sofitel Abidjan Hotel Ivoire. The only thing we didn’t like about this hotel is that they told us we could not bring in outside food. Since we have toddlers, we always go find snacks for them at the local store. We had to explain that we had no choice since it was for the children…and then our cute kids smiled and everyone forgot about the policy haha. As usual, we hired a driver and he was very helpful at helping us negotiate at the market, helping with bags, and being an extra hand if we needed to throw a kid at him while we tended to something like purchasing tickets at the zoo or trying to get in some special pics. Here is a bit of our experience and it’s definitely a place we would recommend visiting if you are in, or coming through, West Africa:

Side note: Long ago, we learned to ignore people saying things like ‘…we’ll, they won’t remember that.’ It’s such an untrue statement. Truth is, very experience we have builds on to the next and the next and the next. And in addition to memories, we have photos and videos to document the experiences we are having and are thankful for God allowing us a chance to see such creations. And besides, when we live-in-the-moment, time stands still and we aim to enjoy as much as we can by living in the now.
